Description
This authentic specimen comes from the famous impact site of Campo del Cielo, one of the most important documented meteorite falls on the planet. The meteorite, composed mainly of iron and nickel, shows a natural surface sculpted by the immense pressures and temperatures of deep space and its passage through Earth's atmosphere.
Campo del Cielo is a meteorite field located in northern Argentina, between the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero. The fragments come from a gigantic iron meteorite that impacted Earth about 4,000–5,000 years ago. Upon entering the atmosphere, the object exploded into several pieces, creating a series of craters and spreading material over an area of more than 60 km².
The meteorite is classified as a coarse octahedrite belonging to group IAB, with a composition dominated by iron (about 93%) and nickel (about 6.7%), along with traces of cobalt, phosphorus, and other elements. Its structure often displays typical features such as impact fractures, fusion cavities, and naturally sculpted shapes from time and space erosion.
A piece of the cosmos in your hands
Each fragment of Campo del Cielo is a relic of the primordial solar system, older than any terrestrial rock, with an estimated age of around 4.5 billion years. Holding a meteorite like this means touching a material that has traveled through space for eons before reaching us.
Perfect for meteorite collectors, planetary science enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a symbolic object representing the universe, the origin of matter, and the incredible cosmic journey that connects us to the stars.
