Description

This extraordinary fossil tooth belongs to the fearsome Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, one of the most enigmatic and specialized dinosaurs of the Mesozoic era. It is a well-preserved specimen, large in size, with the typical elongated conical shape and apical curvature, indicative of its piscivorous function.
Spinosaurus is renowned for being the first large theropod known with semi-aquatic adaptations: a predator that lived between land and water in the rich delta environments of the African Late Cretaceous. Its teeth, smooth, unserrated, and very resistant, were perfect for piercing bony fish and aquatic reptiles, which formed the basis of its diet. The tooth arrangement and skull morphology suggest a behavior similar to modern crocodiles.
The fossil comes from the renowned Kem Kem Formation in the Moroccan Sahara, a site of extraordinary paleontological importance where numerous remains of Cretaceous fauna have been found. The preservation of the apex and the longitudinal striations on the enamel is excellent, with part of the root still present, making it a specimen of high collectible value.
