A beautiful ostrich egg mounted on an ornamental wooden and brass base.
The ostrich egg is to be considered the largest egg of any living bird and for this reason it is collected by taxidermists or, as in this case of mounted egg, by collectors of curiosities who will insert it in their Wunderkammer.
Since the fifteenth century this type of object was collected by nobles and wealthy people, who loved to adorn ostrich eggs with extravagant structures often in silver.
