Norwegian Thulite is a pink variety of zoisite characteristic of Norway, primarily composed of calcium and aluminum, with traces of manganese that give the stone its distinctive pink color.
The name "Thulite" comes from ancient Thule, a mythical name associated with Norway and the Nordic region, and is prized for its natural pink color with white or gray variations.
The main deposits are located in Leksvik, in the Trøndelag region, and also near Lom.
It formed millions of years ago during regional metamorphic events that transformed calcium and manganese-rich rocks into pink zoisite under high pressure and temperature conditions. Its origin is closely linked to Norway's geological history and the tectonic plate movements that created the conditions for the formation of this rare and fascinating stone.
