Cavansite
Cavansite is a silicatic mineral, especially a phyllosilicate. Its name is given by the elements calcium, vanadium and silicon in the composition. It crystallizes in the orthorombic system and has an acicular prismatic crystal habit, transaperent and with vitreous lustre; the color of the crystals ranges from blue to greenish-blue. It tends to form spherulitic crystalline aggregates with a rosette structure. Cavansite forms as secondary mineralization in basalts and andesites and is frequently found sitting atop a matrix of zeolites or apophyllites.
Cavansite was discovered in 1967 in Malheur, Oregon; important deposits are located in Pune, India, and in the Deccan Traps, a large igneous province. Other deposit are located in Aranga, New Zeland, and Owyhee, in Oregon.
It is a very rare mineral and highly sought-after by collectors because of its intense blue color.
