Chrysanthemum Stone.
The Chrysanthemum Stone is a rare and unique geological formation that developed over millions of years through sedimentation and mineralization processes. Its characteristic flower-like pattern is not a plant fossil but a natural mineral structure formed through the crystallization of various minerals within a dark rock matrix.
The matrix of the Chrysanthemum Stone consists of black argillite, limestone, and shale, deposited over millions of years in marine or lacustrine environments. These rocks formed from fine sediments accumulated in oceanic or lagoonal floors, which were compressed over time under high pressure.
Later, through hydrothermal processes, elements such as celestine, calcite, and feldspar infiltrated the sedimentary rock. These minerals, carried by fluids rich in dissolved elements, began to crystallize radially, forming the typical petal-like structures resembling a chrysanthemum.
Over millions of years, gradual cooling and further sedimentation led to the growth of these crystals in a unique radial arrangement. This expansion of minerals created the optical illusion of a fossilized flower, with an extraordinary natural symmetry.
Primarily extracted from the Hunan and Hubei regions in China, these stones are often polished to enhance the beauty of their natural floral patterns.
It is believed that the Chrysanthemum Stone formed approximately 248-290 million years ago, between the Permian and Early Triassic periods, a time when the Earth was still dominated by vast bodies of water and intense geological activity.
Uniqueness of the Formation: The process of mineral crystallization into radial patterns is extremely rare and requires specific geological conditions.
A Rare Mineral Combination: The presence of celestine, calcite, and feldspar in a single matrix is an unusual phenomenon in geology.
