Aragonite
Aragonite is the second most common polymorph of natural calcium carbonate (the most common is calcite). It is a widespread mineral in nature and not rarely transformed into calcite. It takes its name from the Aragon river in Spain. It occurs in various forms: prismatic crystals; pseudo-hexagonal crystals generated by repeated twinning; in very thin acicular crystals, fasciculate or radius, in fibrous aggregates.
Aragonite is colorless (if pure), whitish or variously colored in yellowish, pink-red, greenish, violet due to the presence of impurities. Vitreous luster, generally opaque and semi-opaque when it is not colorless. There is no real industry for ornamental purposes, but it is often cut to obtain necklaces, artistic objects and ornaments. It is a very sough-after mineral among collectors.
Aragonite crystals very beautiful in size and sharpness are found in Italy in the sulfur deposits of Sicily and Romagna. It is also found in the gypsum of Molina de Aragon in the province of Guadalajara in Spain; in Bastennes in the Pyrenees and in many other places.
In crystal therapy, in addition to having good therapeutic properties, it is used as a regulator of the spirit.
