Curiosities and Wonders of the Realm of Poseidon.

Marine crabs, belonging to the vast family of Brachyura, represent one of the most astonishing examples of biodiversity in the aquatic realm.

With over 6,800 species, these crustaceans have adapted to live in all depths of the world's oceans, from shallow coastal waters to dark abysses, showing an extraordinary variety of sizes and behaviors.

Incredible and fascinating creatures, crabs are true masters of adaptation and play an essential role in marine ecosystems. Their ability to adapt to different marine environments makes them privileged study subjects for marine biologists and naturalists, as well as valuable specimens for collectors.

The Wunderkammer, or "chambers of wonders," predecessors of modern natural history museums, were rich in crabs collected during maritime explorations. These

specimens not only symbolized geographical discoveries and adventures beyond known boundaries, but were also tangible evidence of the wonders hidden in the seas. With their particular and sometimes extravagant shapes, they embodied the concept of "mirabilia," essences of wonder that fueled the curiosity and fascination of early naturalistic collections."
