Description

This extraordinary sphere has been carved and polished from a natural block of serpentine sourced from the Peruvian Andes, a region renowned for its geological richness and diverse mineral deposits. The specimen is adorned with widespread crystallized pyrite, imparting golden metallic reflections to the surface, which contrast sharply with the green, black, and earthy brown tones of the matrix.
Serpentine is a metamorphic rock belonging to the phyllosilicate family, formed at low temperatures in magnesium-rich environments through serpentinization processes involving ultrabasic rocks like peridotite. Its lamellar structure and chromatic variety (ranging from olive green to pale yellow) make this stone ideal for ornamental and collectible objects. In many cultures, serpentine is considered a stone of protection, healing, and inner harmony.
In this Peruvian formation, serpentine is accompanied by well-developed pyrite crystals arranged in natural mosaics on the surface. Pyrite, also known as "fool's gold," is an iron sulfide distinguished by its lustrous appearance and cubic or granular forms. In mineralogy, it is appreciated for its metallic brilliance and light-reflecting properties. The sphere comes with a polished black marble base, enhancing its display presentation and transforming the object into an elegant and refined decorative element, perfect for modern interiors or prestigious mineralogical collections. Each angle of the sphere reveals a new chromatic landscape and different golden reflections, making it a unique piece.
