Charoniidae

The family Charoniidae includes some of the most spectacular and imposing marine gastropod mollusks. Specimens belonging to this family are known for their large, often massive spiral shells, with elongated siphonal canals and clearly visible bands or spot ornamentations. In addition to their aesthetic and collectible value, these shells play an important ecological role as predators of starfish and other echinoderms.
Members of the Charoniidae family are especially known for their robust, elongated shells, often exceeding 30–40 cm.
Charoniidae shells are among the most coveted for their size, high aesthetic value, and rarity in perfect condition.
They are often displayed in natural history museums, private collections, and cabinets of curiosities. The largest and most intact specimens achieve high prices on the international collectors’ market.
Distribution: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea, Australia, Japan, New Guinea, Pacific Islands.
